it included members of the san francisco airport, people who were part of sf travel, the bay area council, the san francisco chamber of commerce. there were so many business leaders and folks who participated in our desire to promote business opportunities, tourism, and of course what everyone is truly excited about, pandas. we were truly successful in our trip. we had numerous meetings with government officials, with airlines and with business leaders. we held a business forum of people who have interest in not only doing business in san francisco, but investing in san francisco. we as i mentioned earlier, signed an agreement to bring pandas to san francisco, and we are aggressively moving towards entering into the appropriate agreements that would allow us to move in that direction. so, what we set out to accomplish on this trip, i think we did that, and of course, there's plenty of other things we need to do. a lot of follow through, a lot of paperwork and we are excited and hopeful what this means for san francisco's future. overall, i think especially with regards to the pandas that

there were multiple sideshows around the bay area this past weekend. fortunately for the city of san francisco, we only had one a small, stunt driving event sideshow that happened early in the morning hours of april 14th, when vehicles started to gather in the area of victoria and sergeant street in the taraval. our officers responded very quickly, and the event actually ended, very quickly, i just want to say, you know, about two years ago, we changed our strategies with dealing with these events, and we put together a response plan. it's called our stunt driving response unit, where two lieutenants, now one lieutenant, is assigned to basically rally resources. when we hear that one of these events might be headed our way. thanks to our our collaboration with agencies in the bay area, we usually get noticed when sideshows and stunt driving events are happening. they let us know that they're coming our way. and then we set up, and oftentimes we were waiting in the spots in traditional intersections where these events happen. and that strategy has reall

. >>> this is cbs news bay area with juliette goodrich. >> good evening. >>> on a friday night a crowd of people at your business is a sign you're doing something right, staying relevant, let alone staying open. it's a constant challenge in these trying times where downtowns are struggling to bounce back from the pandemic. we have the story of two restaurants tonight, one celebrating a major milestone, the other a comeback, and how they're each a snapshot of the recovery on both sides of the bay. in san francisco it's an uphill battle for a downtown that depends on filling office buildings. the office vacancy rate hit a record of nearly 37% the first quarter this year according to real estate firm cbre. the university of toronto study found san francisco is just one of 14 downtowns nationwide in a downward trajectory. data from cell phones found visits to downtown dropped more than 21% between march of last year and this past february. so it is quite an accomplishment that the oldest continuously run restaurant in the state right in the heart of downtown san francisco is about to celeb

you can see the winds still whipping up around the bay area. so you can imagine out at ocean beach love that blowing sand out there this evening. and that will continue throughout the weekend as well. looks like high pressure trying to sneak in here. but that's right behind a very of deep low pressure. and that means we'll see a big difference in the pressure. and that will really kind of crank up the winds outside. but right now start to see those clouds part and looks like we're setting up what appears to be a nice weekend ahead. the winds, though, will be a factor by tomorrow afternoon. they'll begin to pick up as we head toward the latter part of the day and then start with in the afternoon. that's where expect to see maybe some 20, maybe some 30 mile an hour gusts not as strong as yesterday, but still strong enough. all right. out the door tomorrow temperatures. yeah, they're looking good. we're going to warm things up in spots. a little cool coast side 50's 60's and san francisco along the coastline. will be cool out toward the beaches wi
